Out of The Box

Wear Raphael has another submission for the testing range. Here is the WR2 Red Brief that came in sized as a XX-Large and in the color red. The brief is made from a blended material of:

• 95% Cotton
• 5% Elastane

The fabric is a solid weave that is thin but not see-through. It has a 2-way stretch property that scores 1.0-inches on the stretch test. The Red Brief is made using multiple pieces of this material sewn together to form the brief.

• 1-piece that provides full coverage in the rear of the buttocks and high around the hips to the sides of the pelvis in the front.
• 2-pieces are that are used as small gussets that continues the coverage from the rear piece and to the top of the pouch in the front. These pieces are joined with flat loop stitching and the seams are trimmed on the outer side with a strip of folded fabric with an elastic band sewn inside. This trims fabric is of contrasting color (white).
• 2-pieces are used to form the pouch that provides full coverage of the pelvis and genitals down to the crotch. One piece for each side of the pouch that are joined together down the center with an over edge seam from the waistband to the bottom. The two pieces (halves) are cut and sewn together to form an outward 3D contoured pouch. The bottom of the pouch is attached to the bottom of the rear piece with an over edge stitched seam. The outer edges of the pouch, gussets and rear pieces which also serve as the leg openings have the contrasting color inseam trim that is about 0.25 inches wide.

• 1-piece of elastic band that is 1.75- inches wide that is used to make the waistband. The waistband is joined in the rear with an end-to-end stitched seam to complete the loop. The “Wear Raphael” logo is embroidered on the waistband and the product tag is imprinted on the inside rear.

Field Testing

The WR2 Red Brief has been out on the testing range 5 times for about 56 hours of wear. Some of the hours were at work operating heavy equipment and some working around home and the woodworking shop.

The Scores

The WR2 Red Brief is very comfortable, the fabric is soft on the skin. The cotton fabric will feel damp at the end of a long hot day or after a good physical workout though. The wide waistband has a plush finish on the inside which is soft on the skin, it feels snug without cutting in. I didn’t feel any restriction or tightness in the leg openings. The 3D contoured pouch has a light compression feel around the genitals but no squeezing.

Wear Raphael describes the WR2 Red Brief as “slim fit” and that is just what it is. With its elasticity properties, the brief is very form fitting. The waistband has a low-rise fit on the waist and this XX-Large fits my waist just right. The leg openings fit well around a muscular build with no tightness. The pouch has enough room to keep every thing secure and covered. The brief overall fits my size in accordance with the size guide.

The fabrics breathability and moisture wicking properties are about mid range and the norm for cotton in my experience. I had no problems with chaffing, pinching or hair pulling. The low-rise fit on the waist didn’t have any problems with rollover and there was no sagging or gaps. With the high-hip cut in the briefs, there is no issues with ride up or bunching of leg fabric. The 3D contoured pouch provides great support and completely separates the genitals from any skin-to-skin contact with the legs. The pouch provides some lift that caries the genitals a little up and forward from the legs and a considerable bulge effect.

The stitching and seam work is clean and flat with no overstitched knots at the intersections. I see no loose threads or gaps in the seams. There is no signs of pilling or color fade in the fabric. The brief has retained its out of the box shape. This is a well built and designed brief underwear with the wide waistband and 3D Contoured pouch.

Conclusion

The WR2 Red Brief has performed very will out on the job site and while working around the home and property. Very nice support with to 3D contoured pouch that helped keep the package lifted out from in between the legs when sitting and riding. It has the performance of a jockstrap except your buttocks are covered. Another Master at the testing range. These guys are going for about $12.56 (US) a pair so they are well in the range of affordable. You can get them direct from Wear Raphael’s website.
