Rounderbum’s Basic Lift Trunk

Again I’m late, life gets busy sometimes. Wife is into her events season. We have had weddings and reunions to stage up for every weekend, so I haven’t had a lot of time to put fingers to keys. But finally here it is.

Rounderbum’s Basic Lift Trunk is the 3rd underwear submitted by the folks at Rounderbum to have a go on the testing range. It’s been in the line up since March.

The Details

The Basic Lift Trunk came sized as an X-Large and according to Rounderbum’s size chart, is listed to fit a 38” – 40” waist. The main underwear (seat, legs, and pouch) is a fabric made of a blend of cotton (93%) and elastane (7%). The cotton is very soft, and the added elastane gives it a nice 2-way stretch. The trunk is constructed of multiple sections of the cotton/elastane fabric. It has 2- leg/side panels, 2- butt panels and 2- pouch panels. They used mostly flat loop stitching on the inside seams with some over edge stitching. (See figure 3, 4)

The waistband is a “Low Rise” cut and is made of a smooth elastic material (not listed).  The waistband is 1.5 inches in width and is embroidered with the Rounderbum name across the front.  (See figure 5) The waistband is attached to the exterior, top of the underwear with multiple lines of stitching.  The legs are a short 1.5 inches in length and have a folded inseam band at the bottom of the let about 0.75 inches in width.  The leg inseam is a loose fit. (See figure 6)

The pouch is made of 2 sections of the cotton/elastane material. The 2 sections are stitched together with a seam up the center and attached around the perimeter with a seam that has a small elastic band stitched inside, which along with fabrics cut pattern gives the pouch its “U” 3D shape. (See figure 1,7) The pouch is lined with a second layer of the cotton/elastane material. There is no fly access. There is a product tag attached to the inside rear of the waistband but it is easily removed. There is also a stamped product tag on the ku inside of the seat.

Now for the [Lift Tech]. This is a feature included on multiple styles offered by Rounderbum. On this trunk style it is described on their listing as a technology designed to provide lift and volume to the buttocks. The [Lift Tech] is the addition of two straps sewn on the inside of the underwear starting in the top rear at the waistband, traveling down and under each butt cheek to the bottom of the pouch (like the straps on a jock) and with the added seam down the middle of the rear seat, it does indeed provide lift and volume to the cheeks. (See figure 2,3,6,8)

On the Range

I have had the Basic Lift Trunk out the range at least 6 times, mostly at work running heavy equipment and my usual 1.5-hour drive to and 1.5 hour from work. One day I had them on helping my wife with her events. Lots of physical activity involving lifting, carrying and climbing up and down ladders setting up for a wedding.

The Review

Fabric

The combination of the cotton and elastane makes a nice soft and stretchy material. Holding a section of the fabric between my fingers and thumbs, 2 inches apart, and pulling opposite each other, the fabric will expand about 1.5 inches to a point it feels taught. This was measured both horizontally and vertically (2-way). The material is slightly thinner than a normal cotton T-shirt but not thin enough to be see through. It feels to be a strong material that can take a little stress. The material is thin enough that it is somewhat breathable and does wick moisture to a point. When the temperature got up into the 80’s with high humidity, the material did become a little moist and sticky. I didn’t experience any pulling, rubbing, or chafing. I have only noticed a little bunching in the legs but this, I belief, is due to its loose fit at the bottom of the leg and since the leg length is very short, it was minimal and didn’t feel uncomfortable. Now with the top sections of the trunk being more form fitting, the added middle seam in the rear and the [Lift Tech] straps, there was no wedgies. The trunk does maintain its shape and fit through out the day, except as mentioned before, the loose fit of the lower legs.

Waistband

The waistband is very soft, smooth, and nice elasticity. So, with its 1.5-inch width its nice and snug but doesn’t cut in. It has enough tension to stay put and not creep down when bending or moving around in a seat. I didn’t experience any band rollover or wrinkling so far. I think the low-rise cut waistband also helps to prevent rollovers.

Legs

The legs are comfortable even with them fitting loose at the bottom.  The short length is a nice style especially in warmer temperatures and provides a little more coverage than a brief.

Pouch

The cotton/elastane material is nice and soft to the package. I didn’t have any problems with chafing, pinching or uncomfortable rubbing. The pouch’s design and construction with the added tension of the [Lift Tech] straps and elastic seam around the perimeter of the pouch provides excellent support and keeps the guy parts separated from the legs. The size and fit of the pouch will be adequate for most guys but if your a little larger than average, then it will feel a bit more snug. There is lift and a little forward push of the genitals, so there is a slightly more than medium bulge effect, not too extreme. The bulge may show a little under light weight clothing.

Overall

With this being the first “Trunk” style underwear I have worn, I must say I am impressed with the fit and wear. The Basic Lift Trunk is very comfortable and the fabric is nice and soft. The elastane allows them to expand and move with the body during movement without binding or pinching. The pouch is nice and supportive even though it may fit a little snug on guys packing a little extra. The over all shape, cut and added [Lift Tech] make this trunk a form fitting underwear. The low cut waistline and short legs are a nice cool even though they got a little damp and sticky when the temps got above 80, but thats why AC was invented. They may work in cooler weather as long as your working in a heated environment. So far these have proven to be made well and durable, they have been through at least 6 cycles of wear and wash and no sign of fading or loose threads. They are currently listed at $18.85/pair which is a little less than most of the other similar underwear out there. Thus, making them somewhat affordable at a cost of about $188/year to maintain a 10 pair draw. Again, always keep a watch for promos and sales. If your looking for something a little cooler with a shorter leg length this trunk will work. If the physical appearance of your rear view is a priority of yours, then I can confirm that the [Lift Tech] works. (of course I have my catch of a lifetime, but I still like to turn her head now and then). They are a very work friendly underwear and would probably work well for travel and vacation, I just haven’t gotten to any of that yet this year. Keep in mind that I only see X-Large as the biggest size that Rounderbum offers and if you larger than my size (see my Bio) these will fit small. As mentioned above, they size them to fit a 38”-40” waist and their form fitting snug on me with a 36” waist. All in all, these are working well for me.
