Kronis-Low Rise Trunk

Here is a low-rise trunk by Kronis Trunks. An Italian designed underwear ready for some trials out on the testing range. They came in a 2 pack, one blue and one red and since the blue was the first to come out of the package, that is what started on the Range in June 2022.

The Low-Rise trunk is sized XL, extra-large for a 40–42-inch waist according to the Kronis sizing chart. It’s made from a blended material of cotton (95%) and elastane (5%). The fabric has a 2-way stretch property. The underwear is made of multiple sections consisting of 1 piece of material for the main body and legs, 2 sections for the pouch (double layered) and a small gusset section under the pouch. The stitching is mostly flat loop with a little over edge stitching.

The elastic waistband is made of a microfiber material with the “Kronis” branding embroidered on the band and it is a similar solid color as the underwear fabric on this style. The band is 1.25 inches wide and is attached to the underwear with multiple lines of stitching. The waistband is a low-rise fit on the waist.

The legs on the Kronis trunk are only about 0.75 inches long, which along with the low-rise waist, make this more of a mini trunk.  The legs are hemmed with a folded stitched inseam of the trunk material.

The no-fly contoured pouch is made of 2 sections of the main material (double-layered) that is sewn on the sides and up the center to give it an 3D “U” shaped contour.

Range Test

These guys started out on the Range in June and have been worn at work at least 5 times while running heavy equipment. They have logged in about 70 hours of wear so far.

Reviews

Fabric

The cotton/elastane blended material has a soft feel on the skin and combined with the elastane, has a nice stretchy fit. The fabric scored 1.5 inches on the stretch test. The material is a medium thickness that makes it non-see-through and is somewhat breathable and moisture wicking. When the days got into the high 70’s and above, they did feel a little moist at the end of a log shift. I have had no problems with chafing, wedgies, or *bunching. The weave of the material also didn’t pinch or pull the body hair. I haven’t seen any signs of pilling or color fade to-date. With the stretchiness of the material, they are from fitting and retain their shape. *(This pair did bunch a little at the legs, but I think this was just a problem in my choice of size and not a product problem. I believe a large would have been perfect.)

Waistband

The waistband on these trunks are very soft and comfortable. The width and elasticity of the material combined with the low-rise fit prevented any roll-over or need to pull up. On this style the color of the band is a near match to the underwear fabric.

Legs

The leg length on these are short, they fit more as a mini trunk to me. The bottoms ride right at the bottom of the butt cheeks and straight around to the groin area. I found them to be very comfortable, especially on hot days. I had no problems with ride up. A note on the legs construction, since the legs and seat section is made from only one piece of fabric, there are no seams in the rear or legs except where the pouch and gusset is attached.

Pouch

The 3D contoured pouch is very soft and comfortable, supportive without any squashing or pinching. Although it’s not a deep pouch as some other brands, it has a larger area design that does provide a lot of room (figure 5) and it provides separation of your package from the legs. The 3D contour design does provide a moderate bulge effect.

Overall

Well overall the Kronis trunk is a comfortable underwear while out on the job. The fabric is soft on the skin and the weave doesn’t pull the body hairs. The low-rise waist and short legs feel nice while in the seat of my heavy equipment or pickup. A good choice for less leg coverage with no binding. The stretchy fabric moves well with the body. The cotton does tend to feel damp at the end of the day when it’s hot and humid, but then again, it’s a trait of cotton. The underwear appears to be quality made and durable to this point as it’s been through 5 wears and laundry cycles with no signs of pilling, fabric stress or loose stitching. The cost is a very reasonable $12.50/pair, so stocking up on 10 pairs of these puts them well into the affordable range.

The Kronis low-rise trunk is a nice work-friendly underwear that won’t break the bank and will provide good support without all the extra leg coverage. Give them a look-see at. https://kronistrunks.co/
