The 4.0 Dual Pouch Boxer Brief is the second underwear by SHEATH that I have had out on the testing range and this underwear also sports the dual pouch system that I previously reviewed in the brief style.
Details

This version of the 4.0 Dual Pouch boxer brief is made of a blended modal (92%) and elastane (8%) material. They also offer this in a bamboo material. The modal/elastane is a light, smooth and thin material and has a 2-way stretch property. The underwear is made of multiple sections of this material sewn together with mostly flat loop stitching. There is 1 – rear panel that covers the buttocks and back half of the legs, 2 – front panels that covers the front hips and legs, 1 – gusset panel that fills in between the inside legs and bottom of the pouch area, and the 3 layers of the pouch panel. The product tag is imprinted on the inside rear of the underwear.

The waistband on this boxer brief is listed on their site as the “Athletic” style and is a medium thickness, woven elastic material that is branded with the Sheath name and emblem in the weave. It is 1.4 inches wide and attached to the underwear with multiple lines of stitching.
The legs are about 5-inches in length and are hemmed around the bottom with a fold of the modal/elastane material.
The Dual Pouch system is made of 3 separate layers of the modal/elastane material.
- The 1st and most inner layer servers as the back wall of the inner pouch. It is attached in a “U” shape along the sides and bottom with the top open horizontally across from about where your genitals are and up to the waistband. So, your package would go on the outer side of this layer. This layer prevents skin to skin contact of the genitals with the body or legs.
- The 2nd layer is the center layer of the modal/elastane fabric and is attached around the perimeter like the first layer, same “U” shape but continues up to the waistband. There is a circular hole sewn in the center of this layer where the penis is put through to the outer pouch (If you chose to wear it that way). So now the penis is separated from the sack.
- The 3rd layer is the outer layer of the pouch and is also attached around the perimeter same as the 2nd layer except for a vertical access fly on the side. (Much like a traditional underwear fly).
Where all three layers are attached to the underwear, there is a small elastic band sewn in the seam. There is also a center seam that runs down the middle of each layer. The combination of the fabric shapes, surrounding and center seam work gives the pouch a 3-D “U” shape.

Range Test
Started these out on the range in June (2022) with most of the hours worn being at work operating heavy equipment and 3-4 hours of travel each day between home and work.

Reviews
Fabric
As with the briefs previously reviewed, the fabric is so soft, at times you’ll forget you have them on. The added elastane gives it a very stretchy quality, scoring 1.5 inches on the stretch test. The light thin material is very breathable and moisture wicking. It is thin enough to be a little see through where not layered but its only a hint of what is underneath. This may vary with the color of fabric. I haven’t experienced any chafing or rubbing points and no bunching or wedging. The fabric appears to be sturdy with no weak or stress points, so it has retained its shape and remains to be form fitting. No signs of pilling or color fade.
Waistband
The woven elastic waistband is soft and stretchy but with enough tension to keep it snug without cutting in. It wears and rides as mid-rise fit. It has a nice wide width with no problems of rollover. There was no need for adjusting or pulling up after sitting or bending. It is a good quality band with a tight weave and sewn on with smooth lines of stitching.
Legs
The legs on these are very comfortable, soft, and smooth and the material doesn’t pull the legs hair. The length is just about right for a boxer brief (for me) especially in warm to hot weather. The inseam at the bottom of the legs doesn’t cut in or feel restrictive. I have had no problems with any bunching or ride up.
Pouch
The Dual Pouch system, as with the previously reviewed brief, is a very comfortable and supportive wear. I can’t imagine any other way to experience this feeling of total separation of the man parts through out the day. This system eliminates that unpleasant skin-to-skin sticky feeling. SHEATH has built in plenty of room for the man parts, I felt no squashing or pinching. The pouch’s design (if used in the full dual pouch configuration) does produce a moderate bulge effect and keep in mind that since it’s a thin material, one might see an faint outline or impression through the outer layer so be mindful where you strut around in these.

Overall
These indeed are a very comfy wear and fit. The sizing for me is spot on with the shape and cut. With the stretchy material they move very well with the body, and I experienced no restriction. The underwear preformed exceptional in the warm to hot temperatures, they stayed comfortable all day. The underwear has been through at least 6 wear and laundry cycles and no sings of fabric stress, color fade or loose stitching. Now for the cost. They are listed at $31.00/pair but when I last checked were on sale for $24.80 so that’s just in my affordable range. The fact is, if you’re looking for underwear that
- Provides outstanding support
- Is soft and light
- Form fitting
- Comfortable waistband that stays put
- Very breathable and moisture wicking
- Has the leg coverage of a boxer brief
- And the bonus of total separation of your man parts from the body
Then you can’t go wrong with these.

Range Qualification Score

The SHEATH 4.0 proved to be a master on the range and a great underwear for the working environment. This is another underwear I highly recommend trying. But don’t just limit them to wear to work, I found them great to just lounge around in when I got home. Check them out here: https://www.sheathunderwear.com/products/4-0-boxer-brief
