Out of The Box
This boxer brief is made of a blended microfiber material that is 78% Nylon and 22% Spandex. It is formed from multiple sections of this material that include:
- 2 main panels to cover most of the back side and each front and outer portions of the legs.
- 2 panels to make the pouch that covers the groin area
- 1 gusset panel that covers the inner legs to the rear bottom and ties it all together.
To combine the sections Malebasics used a double row of flatlock stitching except for seam that surrounds the perimeter of the pouch, which is an over edge stitch. All the seams have a small strip of elastic sewn into them (I believe) for a little extra elasticity. The stitching in the seam is of a contrasting color from the material that shows on the inside and outside of the underwear, except for the seam that surrounds the pouch. Its is only visible on the inside.
The main material has a 2-way stretch property and is very stretchy, measuring 1.5 inches with the stretch test. The material has a tight weave and is thin and light. Even though it’s thin, it is barely see-through when stretched. The product tag is imprinted on the inside rear of the seat.

The Waistband
The waistband is made of one piece of elastic band material that is joined in the rear with a tight end-to-end stitched seam. The waistband is 1.5 inches wide and is attached to the underwear with multiple lines of stitching. The Malebasics name is embroidered on the front of the waistband.
The Legs
The legs on this boxer brief are 5 inches long and are hemmed at the bottom with a stitched fabric fold.
The Pouch
The underwear has a single externally protruding pouch with a “3D” contoured shape that is sort of anatomic in nature. There is no interior lining or fly access.
Special Features or Area’s of Note
As noted before, the seams used in piecing the panels together have a small strip of elastic material or band inside. The location and added elasticity, gives the underwear some from fitting and body defining properties, especially to the pouch and rear seat.
Out On The Range

Field Test Comments: The Microfiber Boxer Brief has been out on the testing range at least 5 times thus far and also been through the laundry cycle 5 times. So it has been subject to about 70 hours of wear with the most activity being operation heavy equipment. Some of the other activities included my workouts, walking and daily travel. The weather was mostly normal summer weather with ranging temps of 30’s to 80’s.
The Scoring
About The Feel and Comfort
The nylon/spandex blended fabric is very soft and has silkie feel on the skin, The fabric and flat stitching are very comfortable on all parts of the body. The waistband is soft and very comfortable.

About The Fit
The waistband has a mid-rise fit on the waist and fits snug without cutting in. I didn’t need to pull up or adjust. The legs fit very well and the inseam or hem doesn’t restrict any movement. The pouch provides plenty of room but doesn’t feel tight or squashing. I was a little concerned at first because they are sized as an extra-large which according to online site, is for a 39-42 inch waist and I normally size with a 36 inch waist. These fit perfectly well while still providing me a form fitting wear with a light compression. I would imagine that if it had been a size large it would’ve had more of a compression quality. I would say if you have a stout to husky build, size up. I do exercise but I am far from a “cut” physic.

About The Performance
The thin microfiber fabric is very breathable and moisture wicking with almost a cooling feel against the skin. The stretch and elastic properties of the fabric and stitching moves and flexes with every body movement. I haven’t experienced any chaffing, rub spots, skin pinching, or hair pulling. The waistband did not roll over, twist or sag. The legs didn’t ride up or bunch and no wedgies in the rear. The “3D” contoured pouch provides very good support and with its forward lifting properties, provides separation of the genitals from the legs.

About The Quality
This boxer brief is very well put together. The seam work is nice and flat with clean lines. There are no knots or excessive overlapping at any of the seams intersections or termination points. The stitch work is clean, tight with no loose threads, no missed or skipped pieces. So far there aren’t any signs of fabric pilling or color fade. The shape of the underwear is still as it was when removed new from the package. No deformities or shrinkage in the fabric or waistband.

About The Design and Construction
The shape and cut of the different sections along with the locations of the seams make for a superbly designed underwear. Always a good choice with a wide waistband and the “3D” contour pouch is a great feature indeed.

So What’s The Word
Malebasics Microfiber Boxer Brief is a great underwear that has performed well with ever activity. Although its marketed as more of an athletic underwear, I found it to be great for on the job, hiking and outdoor activities. To be honest, I found it a pleasure just to wear around the house during leisure time. The $24 price tag is still in my affordable range, but be a smart shopper and look for promo’s. I think they offer a 10% one for first time customers and as always, I will share any they provide me.
If your looking for an underwear that has the coverage of a boxer brief and is form fitting, supportive, comfortable in warm weather, that will handle a lot of physical demands then this is a good choice. You can check them out online at Malebasics.
As always, Start your day with a fresh clean pair and be safe out there.
Again, Special Thanks out to Raul Valencia, founder and CEO of Malebasics, and Juli for your support of this project.
